Vintage Wooden Folding Chairs – Refurbishing Part 1

Hey folks!  Sorry I’ve been MIA.  The other weekend was super busy with spreading our dad’s ashes and I think that wiped me out for the week.  I also have a full-time job so that was keeping me busy as well.  Needless to say I haven’t been up to much.

But I’ve been missing you guys and have really been wanting to post some more DIY projects!  I found these adorable vintage wooden chairs awhile ago…just resting next to a dumpster…I just couldn’t resist…IMG_0709_2

This past weekend was GORGEOUS and it definitely made me want to get outside and work!  Well, after we hung out at the beach on Saturday and went surfing…then it was time to work. 😉  Okay…Sunday late afternoon I got to work.  Hence the post being titled “Part 1”.  But I’m pretty excited with what was accomplished so I wanted to show you guys.

Here is the before picture of the chairs.  Don’t they look sad???  But if you look past the grime, can you see the potential?!?IMG_0715_2IMG_0713_2

After wiping off the dust and dirt I got to sanding!  I used 100 grit with our electric sander but that wasn’t really doing the job so I switched over to 60 grit.IMG_0919_2

My husband came outside to join…IMG_0920_2

After the electric sander we then hand sanded these guys to get in between the cracks and make sure we didn’t miss anything.  Sanding is no joke!  That was my workout for the day! 🙂

And here is the after.  What do you think?!  I’m pretty excited with how they turned out.IMG_0723_2IMG_0721_2IMG_0720_2IMG_0718_2

Part 2 will involve finishing these babies.  I’m debating on what to do.  What do you think?  I have Minwax Honey, Minwax Natural or I was thinking of using Howard’s Feed-n-Wax.  Decisions, decisions…I can’t wait to complete these chairs!  And so far this project has cost me nothing!!  That’s always fun.  xo, Jenneke Rose

  1. I love those chairs! What a great find. I think I like the minwax natural color! Bright and cheerful and would really make them stand out. I can’t wait to see what you do!
